About the Artist: Jan Murray is an Australian artist based in Melbourne working across painting, sculpture, and installation. Her practice investigates the anatomy of painting, specifically the relationship between the intrinsic and extrinsic architecture of the canvas, often employing trompe l'oeil traditions to explore the physical and metaphorical limits of painting as both image and object. Murray completed postgraduate qualifications at RMIT University and the Victorian College of the Arts, where she served as Head of Art until 2018, and has exhibited regularly in solo and group exhibitions since 1981 across Australia, Germany, France, Italy, and the United States. Her work is held in significant Australian public collections as well as the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. (Source: Charles Nodrum Gallery).
