The main archive of 48 hand bound volumes are in good-very good condition. It is clear they have been well used. As amateur works, he  used materials that he could find. Marvelous hand blocked papers for covers and end sheets, and faux leather for the cases. One "mistake" that now lends to the overall quaintness of the bindings is that in many volumes he first glued the pastedowns to the covers, and then added the faux leather spine and corners on top on the pastedowns. 

Richardson is in good - very good condition with light wear.  Jeffrey is in very good condition with a slight bend and some discoloration to the front cover. Internally fine.  Marshal book with some fading and wear (sun?) to spine, otherwise ok.  Derby & King is in fair-good condition, with overall wear. Due o the large text block, it is somewhat loose, but the hinges are holding.  Billings book is fair. Text is quite loose in the binding, with a section pulled away, others nearly so. Complete, and it will sit on a shel, but needs attention (resewing and rebacking. Covers could be preserved. 

Regimental Losses book is in fair condition. Front cover is vry loose and the back cover is held only by a cord. Spine with damage and old ex-lib number. Contents complete but worn.  The Crafts Southern Rebellion book is in very good condition, does not say "End of Vol 1" at the end, but has the Index to Vol. 2 bound at the front after the title page. We wonder if it was first issued separately? Dodge's book is in very good condition except for a loss of leather at the bottom of the spine (the bottom panel) It could be restored. Other wear to covers. Front board is almost detatched. Book is protected with a plastic cover. Walker's book is in good condition, with split inner hinges, wear and loss to spine ends, and loss of half of the spine label.

Moore's Rebellion Record is in very good condition. The rear hinge is split but holding well. Chips and some loos to top of spine. Contents clean. Moore's Song & Story is in a similar condition, with wear and soiling, top of spine chipped away. Contents age darkened due to the poorer quality of paper used.  Kirkland's Anecdotes is in good- condition. Hinges cracked. Leather with wear and some loss especially at the top of the spine. Hinges weak, especially the front.  Porter book is a solid vg+ with only light wear. Livermore book is veryt good with some staining (bleaching?) of the cloth covers.

Conn book is in fair-good condition. Inner hinges are taped. Covers with wear and contents shaken and with some spotting and soiling. Mass book is in excellent condition, with only light wear. RI Battery A book is in very good condition, with edge wear to covers. Inner hinges are split but holding. Only evidence of ex-lib is one label inside front cover. RI Battery B book is in very good condition, with some light edge wear, some light soiling, RI 7th Reg. book is in very good condition. Inner joints are split, causing the text block to drop flush with covers (due to the weight of the pages). Still sound. RI 12th Reg. is in very good condition.

Maine book in very good condition, the text block with some discoloration, light marks. Vermont book is in very good+ condition with wear to spine ends and some light marks. 15th NH book is in very good+ condition, with some light edge wear (ex-lib).  14th NH book is in very good condition, but the inner joints are both cracked. The 5th NH book is in very good condition, with a somewhat faded spine. A few signatures are slightly pulled.

Dabney (Life of Jackson) with detatched front cover. Rear cover hinge split and barely holding. Binding is protected with plastic cover. Wear consistent with age and use.  Gordon Reminiscences is in very good condition, with only light wear. Polk on Polk both volumes are in very good condition, with ex-lib stamps top and bottom of text block, title page.  Clark on North Carolina Regiments books are both in very good condition, with soiling and edge wear, some fraying of spine tips.

All are in very good collectible condition. The volume on Grant and his Campaigns with some spine damage. See photos.

All sets are in very good to fine condition. Draper is near fine with no major faults. Pebble cloth with minimal wear, mostly at corners. Lossing with only slight wear/chipping to spine ends and corners. Also bound in pebble cloth. Comte de Paris vols 1,2 with split inner joints and light wear to blue cloth covers and spines. Vol 3 inner joints starting, vol 4 with evidence of regluing of the inner joints.

Miller 10 volumes mostly in very good condition. Vols 2 & 3 with some spine damage (wrinkles and fading-moisture related).  Elson is in very good condition, minor spots/soiling to covers, internally fine.

In near fine condition, with very slight rubs to leather (mostly at the high points). The Newcomes has a small stain on the front board and some slight loss of leather to the top corner. Displays nicely.

Condition varies between titles. The Lucas volume is in excellent condition, a very light damp stain to covers. The Bronte is in about good condition, Volume 5 lacks the front cover, others with loose boards and some with moderate spine chipping and loss.  The Eliot with significant wear, some spine fraying and chipping, most hinges with some cracks and splits, the last volume with some pulling away from the spine.  Pepys Diary leather has faded some to both vols. Front cover to Vol 1 is almost off, rear cover with split hinge (holding). Vol 2 is much better.  Hugo is in good condition, with wear and soiling to covers, some loose pages internally, and some overall soiling and toning to pages

All are in Fine to Excellent condition, unless noted.

The letter is in excellent condition, with light folds and some minor wrinkles. The signature is bold. The paper is a pale blue with watermarks.

The paperback is in excellent condition, with only faint wear. Age browning to pages as expected.

Goldfinger. Some light stains along page edges, a few inside. Otherwise fine.

Four Your Eyes Only. Some stains inside bottom of front cover and onto the prelims. Else fine.

Thunderball. Top edge of spine is off (about 3/8 in.). Splits along hinges with mild loss. Page 177 is loose in the binding. Other stains and some foxing. DJ is tattered with loss to spine. Other chips and spilt and folds. Good condition.

The Man With The Golden Gun. Spine top with slight chipping. Light spotting/foxing. DJ with piece off of spine bottom. Edges chipped, other light wear and stains. Good-Very good.

All are in reasonably good condition. Some tears and wear to dust jackets, light spots on some prelims and pages. Overall Very Good.

Plutarch: Expertly rebacked. Some fraying to spine tops, corners bumped with some loss, all edges show shelf wear. Light damp stains to fore-edge bottoms. Display nicely.

Shelley: Spines are lightly sunned. Wear to high spots. Light damp stains to front and back covers. Other very small rubs. Display nicely.

Browning: Bindings with light shelf wear and light soiling. Corners lightly bumped without loss. Pages toned. Display nicely.

Binding is strong. Leather is sunbleached to a light yellow. Back cover with some stains. Contents is in very good condition and quite clean.

All volumes are in very good used condition, with some tears and minor losses/folds to dust jackets, age darkening to the non-glossy texts. A significant collection of seminal early ecological works by two of the pioneers. 

In fine condition with only slight sun fade to the spines.

Overall condition is fine. Light wear as expected, but mostly tight and sound. Corners with light wear to tips. Some volumes with edge wear. Vol 1 with slight chipping to top of spine. Vol 9 with one signature pulled but not loose. Forster's Life with wear to all the high spots: edges, hinges, raised bands, and top and bottom of spines. A very light touch of leather dressing would do wonders.

Excellent condition, with only the smallest bits of wear. Great corners, light toning. Fore edge and bottom of text block with occasional spots. Spines with typical sun fading from green to brown. Volume 18 with small scratch to bottom leather triangle on front cover. One would be hard pressed to find this set in this condition.

Willard book is in fine condition with expected wear and soiling from use as a reference book. Contents clean and tight. Plate 24 is loose in the binding.

Other books are Good to Fine.

All are in very good - fine condition. The Jacobsen dust jacket is torn and wrinkled. The Brewington book is weak in the hinges to due it's excessive weight.

All 24 volumes are in excellent condition, with only mild sunning to the spines and the occasional stray marks. Fine corners. Exceptional set.

All volumes are tight and sound. Light wear to spine tips with some small losses to some volumes. Boards all display some discoloration (stain) to front and back boards. Corners are only slightly bumped. Three volumes show split rear hinges (about 50%), but all are holding solidly.

The book is in very good condition, with only some minor losses. While not every page has been turned due to the fragility of the thin paper used to make these copies, we believe all pages are present, except for the bottom half of p 698 (torn away). The binding with wear, soiling, and scuffing. The spine bottom with 2" splits on front and rear hinges, but intact. Lacks front free end paper.
