William Horace (Bill) Littlefield (Massachusetts/New York, 1902-1969). Group of four abstract works from 1958–1961, comprising: Work 1, Paint on paper laid on painted cardboard, signed "W.L. 1/18/58" [likely 1958]; Work 2, Mixed media with paint, abstract work laid on painted cardboard, initialed lower left and dated 10/11/61, inscribed to verso "All that we grasp is MOVEMENT superimposed upon Movement."; Work 3, Small abstract work, paint on paper laid on cardstock board, initialed lower right and dated 2/24/60, inscribed to verso "Influenced by form, will need for order / substance exists in by itself without requiring support."; and Work 4, Titled "Neither This Nor That," abstract painting on paper laid on cardstock board, signed "W.M. Littlefield" lower left and dated 2.2.26, inscribed to verso with title and dimensions.

About the Artist: William Horace (Bill) Littlefield (1902-1969) was an American painter born in Roxbury, Massachusetts, and educated at Harvard University, where his interest in art and classical mythology first took root. After several formative years in Paris during the late 1920s, he settled permanently in Falmouth on Cape Cod, later co-founding the Cape Cod Art Association in 1947. His work evolved over his career from figural realism to abstract expressionism, and he exhibited at institutions including the Whitney Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.
