Virgil Publii Virgilii Maronis Opera Ad Novissimam Heynii Editionem Exacta Cum Notis Selectis Mediolani (Milan) Typis Nicolai Bettoni MCCCCXIX [1819]. Three volumes bound in half leather (green) with gilt spine decorations and red labels to all three. Marbled boards. Corners edged in vellum. All edges yellow. 8vo. All three volumes with the bookplate of John C. Warren (1778-1856). Dr. Warren was the Founder of the New England Journal of Medicine, and the third President of the American Medical Association, along with numerous other accolades. In 1846 he was the first surgeon to operate on a patient under anesthesia (This was his second try at it. The first attempt, a tooth extraction, did not go well). In 1966 the books were acquired by Dr. Michael A. Luongo (former Chief of Pathology at Waltham, MA hospital) as evidenced by the inclusion of a card from the shop of Howard S. Mott, Rare Books, Sheffield, Mass., dated 3/1/66. "This book from one famous Boston doctor's library goes into that of another, with the gratitude of Phyllis & Howard Mott.".
