Two Atlases from the State of Massachusetts to include:
Official Topographical Atlas of Massachusetts, from...various local surveys...H.F. Walling & O.W. Gray 1002 Chauncy St. Boston. Published by Stedman, Brown & Lyon 1871. Bound in 3/4 leather with cloth boards, the binding is in poor conditioon. (as usual). Covers are separated, spine worn and cracked. Seems to be lacking 2 leaves (pp 83-86). Includes most of the maps, including a map of the US (2 pp spread), a map of New England (2 pp spread), a map of Massachusetts (with Railroad legend), and 16 county and city maps (Town of Groton is the final map, possibly p 81). The text then picks up at p 89 with cnesus and school statistics, Lists of Cities, Towns, Villages, and Post Offices. There is a business directory for Boston and vicinity, and a 3 pp directory for Middlesex County. Some pages with chips and splits, soiling from years of use, but mostly all in good condtion.
County Atlas of Middlesex Massachusetts. From actual Surveys by and under the Direction of F.W. Beers & Co. 36 Vesey Strreet New York. 1875.Bound in 1/2 leather ith cloth boards, the binding is in very poor condition (often the case), covers detatched, spine shredded, lots of pages chipped and or splits at all edges. Maps are mostly OK. Map on pps 117-119 is mostly torn away, having been printed on a much thinner paper than the rest, and includes parts of Watertown and Cambridge. Unsure if there was a map on p122 or not. Lacks maps 20 and 43 (Groton and Acton). Maps complete at p 152. Then follows a listing of Business Notices for Middlesex County to the end. Also laid in is a manuscript entitled: Dialogue. The Champion of her sex. A dialogue between Mrs. H and her granddaughter Caroline. Mrs. H's dialogue is not recorded, only Caroline's responses. Interesting read. Because of the overall condition, these atlases are sold as-is, with all faults.
