About the Artist: Richard Hamilton is widely regarded as one of the founding figures of British Pop Art, best known for his 1956 collage "Just what is it that makes today's homes so different, so appealing?", considered among the earliest works of the movement. Trained at the Royal Academy Schools and the Slade School of Fine Art in London, Hamilton spent decades exploring the intersections of consumer culture, mass media, and fine art, producing paintings, prints, and installations that placed him at the center of postwar British art. He maintained close friendships with Marcel Duchamp, whose work profoundly influenced his own, and was a longtime collaborator with artists and musicians including the Beatles, for whom he designed the plain white sleeve of the 1968 White Album. Hamilton exhibited internationally throughout his career and his work is held in the collections of Tate Modern, the Museum of Modern Art, and major institutions worldwide. He died in London in 2011 at the age of eighty-nine.
