Copper engraving map example from Claudius Ptolemaeus (Ptolemy, c. 100 – c. 170 CE) and Giovanni Antonio Magini's (1555–1617) "Geografia cioè Descrittone Universale della Terra Partita in due volumni, Nel Primo de' quali si contengono gli Otto Libri della Geographia di Cl. Tolome." The page title, "Descrittione di tutto il mondo terreno al più moderno stile del nostro tempo" translates in English to, "Description of the whole terrestrial world in the most modern style of our time." Page features six Windheads, with the Americas and undiscovered southern Continent. This later published edition of Ptolemy's Geographia represents one of the most influential cartographic works of the ancient world. The Geographia profoundly shaped Renaissance mapmaking, with the earliest known manuscripts dating to 1300 and the first printed edition appearing in 1477. Copperplate engraving with hand-coloring.
