Preserved Clapp New England Tall Clock with Paper Dial

An early diminutive tall case clock with a paper face by Preserved Clapp (1705-1758) of Amherst, Massachusetts. A contemporary label on the back reads "Saml. Holt's Boston, Mass". The hard pine case in Spanish brown stain has a tombstone arched glassed door for the face and a slender tombstone arched door for the case. The face door is connected by tiny strap hinges and the case door by tiny pintle and iron hinges. All appear to bo original, The face has applied moldings to the top and bottom, and there is an applied base molding as well. The glass in the face door appears to be early and perhaps original, held in place with plain molding strips. The clock face is an engraving printed on early chain laid paper, with a a dial in roman numerals and decorated on the corners with four winged cherubs. The crest of the label has a centered wreath with scrolled border and "Preserved Clapp New-England". Two mythical dolphins flank the wreath. Complete with original brass works, bell cap, pendulum and weights.

Condition
Excellent original condition. Early refinish to case. Some losses to paper label, but still displays well. Pine base of face with repaired split (evident when seen from the back). Wear to some of the edges.
