About the Artist: Myles Patrick "Pat" Jensen (1928-2009) was a self-taught painter working in a Pop and photo-realist idiom through the 1960s. Born in Montevideo, Minnesota, he was the younger brother of sculptor Leo Jensen, also active in early Pop Art. By the early 1960s Jensen was exhibiting regularly in Connecticut, showing at the John Slade Ely House in New Haven and at the Mystic Outdoor Art Festival, where he won prizes for oil and watercolor in 1962. In 1963 his work was included in "Popular Art: Artistic Projections of Common American Symbols" at the Nelson Gallery-Atkins Museum, Kansas City, one of the first U.S. museum surveys of the movement, alongside Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, and James Rosenquist. He exhibited through the 1960s at galleries including the Sakowitz Gallery in Houston, the Amel Gallery in New York, and the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, and his work is held in the collections of the Florence Griswold Museum, the Mattatuck Museum, and the Housatonic Museum of Art.
