A typed letter dated 9th January, 1963 on Fleming's 4, Old Mitre Court letterhead. The letter is a thank you note to "Darling Tammy" for sending him a copy of the Harvard Lampoon parody "I*n Fl*m*ng Alligator A J*mes B*nd Thriller". Vanitas Book 1962. This paperback copy is a second printing (Ja. '63). Fleming had already been in touch with The Lampoon, allowing them to use "the joke" which otherwise would infringe upon his copyright. "There are some not bad jokes in it, but I think it could have been still funnier. It's terrifying how Americans of all ages seem to be taking to my books. Surely this is a powerful criticism of the state of American education!" He ends with, "With a big kiss, Love Ian." The recipient' s name and address are at the bottom of the letter.
Letter is H 10 in. W 8 in. The book is H 7 in. W 4-1/4 in.
The letter is in excellent condition, with light folds and some minor wrinkles. The signature is bold. The paper is a pale blue with watermarks.
The paperback is in excellent condition, with only faint wear. Age browning to pages as expected.
