About the Artist: Henry Martin Gasser was an American realist painter celebrated for his watercolor and oil depictions of everyday life in his native New Jersey, particularly the industrial streets and backyards of Newark, as well as coastal scenes along Cape Ann, Massachusetts. A protege of fellow New Jersey artist John R. Grabach, Gasser served as Director of the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art from 1946 to 1954 and was elected a full Academician of the National Academy of Design in 1950. His work is held in the collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Art Institute of Chicago, among others.
