About the Artist: Ernesto Villanueva is a Cuban painter, printmaker, ceramicist, and designer born in Havana in 1970. Trained originally in engineering and drawing at the Higher Technical Institute Jose Antonio Echeverria, he shifted fully into fine art following his first solo exhibition in 1995, going on to develop a richly colored abstract style shaped by both the New York School and Cuba's mid-century avant-garde movement. Beginning in 2009, he launched his long-running "Summer in My Garden" series, in which suggested floral forms recur across shifting palettes and compositions as a meditation on personal, interior space, a body of work that has since been exhibited across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, including a 2014 solo exhibition in London.
