Catherine Howe (b. 1959, Buffalo, New York), The Female Gaze. Acrylic on canvas. Signed on verso. American, circa 1990.
H 69 in. W 57 in.
About the Artist: Born in Buffalo, Catherine Howe earned her MFA from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1983 and has long worked in New York City as a painter, teacher and curator. She first drew critical attention in the 1990s for figurative paintings of women set against gestural, Abstract Expressionist-style grounds, work that questioned how female subjects are imagined and pictured and that Florida Atlantic University surveyed in 1998. Her later practice turned to abstracted botanical still lifes built from iridescent pigments, metal leaf and sweeping brushwork, and she has exhibited across the United States and abroad.

Overall excellent.
