Antique horticultural specimen salesmen book, "Specimen Book of Fruits, Flowers and Ornamental Trees / Carefully Drawn and Colored from Nature for the use of Nurserymen" meant for portable use. Contains approximately 80 chromolithograph plates hand-finished with paint depicting apples, raspberries, grapes, cherries, roses, ornamental shrubs, and more. The book is encased in a leather binding featuring an interior marbled paper pocket. Plates predominantly produced by D.M. Dewey (logo partially clipped to bottom center on opening page) and many pages marked with 'Dewey's Series' with at least one plate marked by 'J.W. Thompson', suggesting customized assembly where nurserymen selected plates from available sources to represent their specific inventory. Chromolithographed plates with leather binding. Rochester, New York, circa 1880.
